Dispersed camping is not allowed in Sedona. Manzanita Campground is a small, year-round, tent-only facility with campsites that fill up very quickly. Some developed campgrounds in the Mogollon Rim Ranger District are open and dispersed camping is allowed. Oak Creek is narrow with tons of private homes up and down it. As far as availability, the City of Phoenix shows up in force on holiday weekends. There are 2 great RV campsites mentioned below, and there are several more good RV campsites along FR 535 above Oak Creek Canyon. Dispersed camping is permitted 6 miles from the trailhead. Come early and during the weekdays to have a chance at one of these prime campsites. The Red Rock Ranger District and Oak Creek Canyon visitor centers remain closed. I would not be looking to get a campsite, particularly in Manzanita, on a Friday night. #2 North of Sedona: FSR 237 Near Oak Creek Vista. Pumphouse Wash is what I consider one of the most popular free dispersed camping spots in and around Sedona. Manzanita Campground is located just south of Slide Rock State Park in scenic Oak Creek Canyon. You can camp out on Road 525 and Road 89B (almost across the street from each other). If you are going to get into the towers as well, then camping south of town is the best wilderness camping. The camping near Pumphouse Wash is technically part of FSR 237 and really isn’t that far from the Oak Creek Vista Overlook before the switchbacks that head to Sedona. Next we hit some of the forest roads at the top of the switchbacks and scoped out a few of the available dispersed campsites, which are a solid option if the canyon’s three campgrounds … The campground is located right next to Oak Creek. What are the chances that we will find a dispersed camping spot, and are the trails pet friendly? There is one area about 5 miles west of Sedona off Hwy 89A. Also, about 5 miles south of Sedona off Hwy 179, there is Beaverhead Flat Road. Oak Creek Canyon is known for its towering walls and lush, diversely vegetated stream banks. Oak Creek Canyon is very crowded, especially on weekends; to get a campsite, it is best to reserve a weekday. 19 campsites are small and 11 are now available for reservations. Another bonus is that Flagstaff is only 15-20 minutes away. There are a few dirt roads out there where dispersed camping is allowed. Many visitors compare this water hike to the Narrows of Zion National Park.
